Yo! Basecamp

For us, "home" is a quiet private campground, nestled among gigantic pines and firs at an 8,000-foot elevation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at California. We set up several spacious, gender-specific tents, which house four humans and their belongings comfortably. All of our activities are always a short drive or hike from camp. During all camps students have at least one opportunity to visit a local store and showers. Cell phone access depends on the camp.

Days begin with a hearty breakfast and end with a scrumptious dinner (see more below). All meals except lunch, which we pack, are served in our clean outdoor kitchen and eaten at comfortable picnic tables right in camp. In the evening we sit around a campfire, share stories while munching S'mores, participate in fun games, or watch a climbing slideshow. By the time bedtime rolls around, everyone has had a very full day and is psyched for the next day’s adventure!

Leave No Trace

LNT principles are common knowledge among most folks nowadays. Still, it's not uncommon to see trash in our wilderness areas. At YB, we pride ourselves on practicing what we preach. We teach (and show) you that LNT must not be a one-time thing if wilderness is expected to stay wild. We also educate you about your surroundings, with hopes that this familiarity will spark a lasting, caring and conscious relationship with the outdoors.

You Are What You Eat

OK, we confess: We're food snobs. Not only do we want our food to taste good, but we also make sure that every meal is healthy. We include fresh veggies with all of our dinners. Lunches are hearty, overflowing with delicious sandwiches and tons of tasty snacks and fresh fruit. Our breakfasts, the all-important meal, are simple yet yummy. Did someone mention dessert? We definitely have our weaknesses, but we like to indulge, in, uh, moderation. Please let us know if you have a special diet.
